An Amazing Engagment Shoot With Alt-F + A Great Deal For You - fotosam @ 9:29 am

blogoct28.jpg

ATTENTION: The amazing John and Dalisa Cooper of AltF Photography are having a pre-WPPI Vegas workshop in ‘09 and I wanted to make sure you knew about it before their discounted pricing went away (register on or before October 31st to SAVE $250 - though they’re worth every penny of the full price). As photographers, studio owners and individuals they awe and inspire. Check out their workshop information at www.veryaltf.com and read below for my personal experience with this dynamic duo.

The Time of Our Lives
Fears of being lit on fire, thrown in a swamp or dragged through the mud abounded as my fiance and I made the four hour drive to Las Vegas last week. You just never know what John Michael Cooper will ask you to do. And if he asked - we’d do it.

Known as the Godfather of Trashing (www.trashthedress.com), John Michael Cooper’s unique style and inventive photo scenes have raised him to the status of legend. His work is discussed on blogs and often is the point of controversy - case in point: in one stream of comments about his more infamous trash the dress shots he is called “original, creative, brilliant, disturbing, misogynistic and genius.”

John’s other half is the fabulous Dalisa Cooper. Her charismatic charm and witty sense of humor are a fitting complement to his artistic sensibilities. She is beautiful, sweet and no less bad ass than her husband. In her own words, ” I do whatever it takes to keep the Altf thing kicking ass. John is the creative mind of Altf, so I take over all other responsibilities to allow him to just be the artist.”  John’s the globe spinning a million miles a second, and Dalisa’s the axis, keeping his life and vision in line.

With a tight budget for our New Years Eve wedding, we never dreamed we would get to have our engagement photos shot by such incredibly talented photographers. But, with a gift from my parents and a huge gift from John and Dalisa, my dream came true. I was so stoked to finally get to meet them and experience my own AltF shoot that I couldn’t stop smiling - much to John’s chagrin as he kept telling me “relax your face.” The shoot was amazing and we left feeling confident that our portraits were going to be perfect.

I can’t stress enough just how much I think anyone can benefit from their workshop - whether you could use some creative inspiration, some increased technical saavy or just a good time with great people. Check out the information at www.veryaltf.com and register before the discount goes away!

John and Dalisa - thank you for creating a lasting memory of Jon & I before we get married. The images will be perfect for our invitations, display portraits and guest book (and facebook and myspace and wedding website and empty house frames and…). Thank you for making us feel like complete rock stars. We sent you a little gift to your inbox - enjoy a couple seasons of Dexter or Californication on us!

Greener Pastures - Fotoworks is going Green! - fotosam @ 2:05 pm

green-recycle-img.gifInspired by so many of our fabulous photographer’s efforts to lessen their impact on our environment, the staff at Fotoworks is working together to reduce, reuse and recycle in as many ways possible.

While many aspects of our business have already been reworked to take less of a toll on our world, we are challenging ourselves to implement one new Green improvement each month here at the lab.

Our Current Initiatives Include:
Monitoring Paper Usage - We have reduced the amount of paper consumption necessary for invoicing and processing your order. Our goal is to use the smallest amount of paper necessary to track your order in our workflow. When we need to print reports and research for in-house use, we make attempts at reducing font size and printing double sided to reduce waste.

Proper Chemistry Disposal - A by-product of silver halide prints is silver left suspended in photo chemistry after processing. At Fotoworks, we process and remove silver from our chemistry prior to disposal.

This Months GO GREEN CHALLENGE:
All paper waste is going into one bin for recycling. Simple and something that should have been done a long time ago. Our office park does not provide us with a recycling pick-up but we’re going to find a way to take all of our paper waste to a recycling facility so that it can easily be recycled.

Keep checking our blog to see how we’re doing with our Green Challenge. If you have insights, ideas or your own challenge to share, leave us a comment below!
